CrankSight

Terms

Terms

These terms are in two parts. Part 1 covers buying a guide. Part 2 covers using it. By buying or using a CrankSight guide you agree to both.

Last updated 15 October 2026.

Part 1. Terms of sale

1. What you're buying

A CrankSight guide is digital content: an interactive inspection guide for one model and generation of car, for the market you choose. It covers every engine, gearbox and body style in that generation, and you pick the one you're viewing in the app. You can use one guide to inspect as many cars of that model as you like.

Guides cover cars with petrol or diesel engines only.

2. Ordering and access

You order and pay on this website. Your guide is delivered to the CrankSight app, where you sign in with the email address you gave when you ordered. The guide is for your own personal use. You may not resell, copy, publish or share it, or let other people use your sign-in.

3. Delivery

We will deliver your guide within 72 hours of payment. If we do not, we will refund the full price, and you keep the guide when it is delivered. We will email you when it is ready.

4. Price

£29, including any VAT that applies.

Discount codes are entered when you order and applied at payment. One code can be used per order. A code may have an expiry date or other conditions, which we tell you when we issue it. Codes have no cash value, and we may end a campaign code at any time without affecting orders already placed.

5. Price updates and refresh

Repair costs and values change over time, so every guide shows the date its prices were set. Updates are included for 12 months after you buy. After that you can refresh the guide for £3, which gives you another 12 months of updates. If you don't refresh, you keep the guide and can still use it, with the prices from its last update.

6. Cancellation and refunds

You can cancel your order for a full refund at any time before your guide is delivered, by emailing hello@cranksight.co.uk. Once it has been delivered, you can no longer cancel.

Because a guide is digital content made for the model you request, you will be asked when you order to agree that we can start preparing it straight away, and to acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once it has been delivered. If a guide for your model is already available, it's delivered straight away.

If a guide is faulty or not as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we will repair or replace it or give you a refund.

7. Who we are

Part 2. Terms of use and disclaimer

8. What the guide is

The guide is an information and guidance tool. It helps you look at a car systematically, understand what you are seeing and form your own view of what it may cost to own. It is not a mechanical inspection, a condition report, a survey, a vehicle history check, a valuation or a professional appraisal, and must not be relied on as any of those.

It does not cover electric or hybrid drive systems, and does not assess high-voltage batteries, electric drive units, power electronics or charging systems.

9. It is not professional advice

Nothing in the guide is mechanical, engineering, legal, financial, tax or investment advice. We recommend an online vehicle history check for every car. Where you are unsure about a car's condition, or the guide points to something you can't assess yourself, have it inspected by a qualified technician before you commit.

10. Estimates and valuations

All costs, values and figures are estimates based on market information available at the date shown in the guide. They reflect typical costs for the model, not prices for any individual car. They are not quotations, offers or appraisals, and no garage or seller is bound by them. Before relying on a repair cost that would affect your decision, get a written quotation from the garage you intend to use. Actual costs vary with the garage, the area, parts availability and the condition of the car. Market values change all the time, and where few comparable cars exist the figures are less certain.

11. Condition allowances and suggested prices

Any guide value assumes a car in ordinary condition for its age, with a typical amount of outstanding work, and includes an allowance for that. The allowance is a general view of the used market, not a statement about any individual car. A car may need much more or much less work than the allowance assumes, and may have faults the guide does not cover. Any suggested price is one way of thinking about a purchase, not a statement of what a car is worth.

12. Specification, option codes and advert text

Guidance on identifying factory options, including any codes, is general. Codes are reused between models and model years, options were sometimes fitted or recorded inconsistently, and factory paperwork can be incomplete, missing or altered. Any feature that reads advert text looks for keywords only. It does not verify anything, may match the wrong option and may miss options entirely.

13. Service intervals

Manufacturer intervals are stated to the best of our knowledge. They may have been revised, may vary by market and may differ from what a specialist recommends. Where the guide says there is no published interval, that is not a recommendation to carry out or put off the work. Always check the manufacturer's documentation for the individual car.

14. Wear and condition guidance

Wear guides are simplified so you can use them without specialist measuring equipment. They are not measurements. Where a part is close to a limit, or you are unsure, have it measured by a qualified technician.

15. Must-fix and live-with work

The difference between work described as necessary and work you might choose to live with is a general guide. Whether a fault would fail an MOT or roadworthiness test depends on the tester, how serious the fault is and the standards in force at the time. We make no statement that any car will pass or fail any test.

16. Home mechanic work

Where the guide says a job may suit a competent home mechanic, that describes the nature of the work. It is not a recommendation that you do it. Working on cars can cause serious injury. If in doubt, use a qualified technician.

17. Safety at the car

Only carry out checks you are competent and equipped to do safely. Never go under a car that is not properly supported, don't work on a hot engine or cooling system, and take normal care when driving an unfamiliar car. Get the seller's permission before any check or test drive, and make sure you are insured to drive.

18. Accuracy and completeness

We take reasonable care to check every fact in a guide against the model it covers. Even so, we give no promise that the information is accurate, complete, current or applies to any particular car. If an issue is not in the guide, that does not mean it doesn't exist. The results depend on the answers you enter, which we do not check.

19. Your decisions are your own

You are responsible for every decision you make about a car, including whether to inspect it, whether to buy it, what to pay and what work to have done. You use the guide at your own risk.

20. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of the guide or your reliance on any information or figure in it. This includes the cost of repairs, loss of value, buying an unsuitable or faulty car, wasted expenses, loss of profit, and any indirect or consequential loss. If we are found liable to you for any reason, our total liability is limited to the price you paid for the guide.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited by law. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

21. Independence and trade marks

CrankSight is independent. It is not authorised or endorsed by, and has no connection with, any vehicle manufacturer or its subsidiaries, distributors or dealers. Manufacturer, model, option and part names and codes belong to their owners and are used only to identify and describe cars.

22. Your information

To deliver your guides we hold your name, email address, country, order details and the guides you have bought. Your inspection answers and notes are saved on your device and, when you are signed in, to your account so you can open them on another device. We don't sell your information. Our privacy notice explains how we use it and your rights.

23. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the one shown when you ordered.

24. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live outside England and Wales, you keep any protections the law where you live gives you.
