What to check on a Astra J VXR
3 model-specific things to look at when you view one. They're a starting point, not the full inspection.
Clutch wear
What to look for: On the drive, accelerate firmly in a higher gear and watch for the revs rising without the car speeding up to match. After the drive, note any burning smell. Look in the history for a clutch replacement and what was fitted.
Why it matters: Hard launches can overwhelm the clutch, and Vauxhall issued a service alert about it. An aftermarket clutch and flywheel kit is a common replacement.
Whine near full lock
What to look for: In a car park, turn slowly towards full lock in each direction and listen for a whine.
Why it matters: A whine near full lock is normal on these cars and comes from the Drexler limited-slip differential, not usually from the power steering pump. Knowing this avoids worrying about a healthy car.
Seat back release and seat heaters
What to look for: Use the seat back release on both front seats to tip them forward, as you would to reach the rear seats, and check they latch back securely. Switch on the seat heaters and check both warm up.
Why it matters: The seat back release cable can fail, and on these Recaro-designed seats that means a whole new seat frame. Seat heaters can also stop working.
