What to check on a 9Y0 Cayenne
3 model-specific things to look at when you view one. They're a starting point, not the full inspection.
Air suspension, if fitted
What to look for: Look at the car when you arrive: it should sit level, with no corner lower than the others. Cycle through the ride height settings and watch the instruments for a chassis system message. Listen for the compressor running for a long time.
Why it matters: The system is more durable than on earlier Cayennes, but strut leaks, compressor wear and ride height sensor failures still happen. One sagging corner after standing overnight is the classic sign. Steel-sprung cars don't have this check.
Gearbox behaviour
What to look for: Drive from cold and in slow traffic. Changes in the lower gears should be smooth, with no hesitation or abrupt shifts.
Why it matters: Occasional hesitation or abrupt low-gear shifts on the 8-speed automatic are usually software related, and are often cured by reprogramming or an adaptation relearn. Ask whether updates have been done.
Driveline clunks and the transfer case
What to look for: Pull away gently several times and drive slowly on full lock both ways. Listen for a clunk from underneath and feel for jerking or binding.
Why it matters: Early cars had transfer case software updates for their behaviour, and driveline clunking on some 2020 to 2021 Coupés was mostly resolved under warranty with updated mounts or recalibration. A dealer can say which updates the car has had.
