What to check on a 991.2 Carrera
3 model-specific things to look at when you view one. They're a starting point, not the full inspection.
Recalls and workshop campaigns
What to look for: Ask the seller, or a Porsche centre with the VIN, to confirm that recalls and campaigns are done. On this generation they include the coolant expansion tank, a fuel system bolt, the vacuum solenoid for the exhaust change-over valve, and airbag screws on some 2019 cars.
Why it matters: The expansion tank recall cured false low-coolant or overheating warnings, and the others are straightforward fixes done free at a Porsche centre. A car with all of them completed is a car that's been kept up to date.
Water pump leaks
What to look for: From underneath and in the engine area, look for coolant crust or pink residue around the water pump and hoses. Check the coolant level in the tank under the front lid.
Why it matters: Some water pumps, mainly on cars built from late 2017 to early 2018, leaked and were replaced with a sturdier type. Paperwork showing the newer pump has been fitted settles it.
Cold-start noise
What to look for: Start the engine from cold and listen at the back. Some valvegear noise for the first few minutes is normal on this engine. Noise that continues once warm, or a misfire, is the thing to note.
Why it matters: The 3.0 is known to be noisy for a short time on a cold start, and it isn't known for oil consumption. Persistent noise or misfires warrant a specialist's look and a fault code read.
