The versions

  • Diesel: 3.0 V6 turbodiesel, 275hp
  • S: 3.0 twin-turbo V6 petrol, 404hp, uprated to 424hp after 2018; a 345hp V6 joined in 2016
  • GTS: 3.8 twin-turbo V8, 530hp, rear-wheel drive
  • S Q4 four-wheel drive, offered in left-hand drive only
  • ZF eight-speed automatic and a limited-slip differential on every car

What to check on a Quattroporte VI

3 model-specific things to look at when you view one. They're a starting point, not the full inspection.

  1. Gear selector and Park

What to look for: Select Park and check the dash shows it correctly. In traffic, come to a stop several times and check the car stays in gear and running. Ask a Maserati dealer to confirm recall work against the VIN.

Why it matters: Some owners found their car would switch into Park and turn itself off when stopping, though it wasn't common. A 2017 recall on 2014 model year cars sorted out a false indication from the gear lever, so look for evidence it has been done.

  2. Fuel system recalls

What to look for: Open the bonnet after the test drive and check for any smell of fuel. Ask the seller, or a Maserati dealer with the VIN, to confirm the fuel recall work has been done.

Why it matters: 2014 and 2015 cars were recalled in 2017 to fix a potential leak from a fuel pipe, and in early 2018 the resistors for the GTS's low-pressure fuel pumps were replaced under recall. Most cars will have had the work done by now, and a dealer can confirm it from the VIN.

  3. Electric windows

What to look for: Operate every window. If one misbehaves, try the reset first: after the window lifts, hold the button for three seconds, then repeat twice more.

Why it matters: The mechanism that lowers the glass slightly when a door opens and raises it when it closes can malfunction, and the reset often sorts it. A window that still won't behave after the reset needs proper diagnosis.
