What to check on a Ghibli
3 model-specific things to look at when you view one. They're a starting point, not the full inspection.
Oil pressure on early cars
What to look for: On the test drive of an early car, watch the oil pressure on the dash once the engine is warm and note any warning. Look in the history for oil pressure work done under warranty.
Why it matters: Early 2013 cars had an oil pressure issue that was fixed under warranty, but some may have slipped through. Oil pressure transducers have also been replaced under warranty on some cars, so related entries in the history are normal.
Recall work
What to look for: Ask a Maserati dealer to check the VIN for outstanding recalls. After the test drive, open the bonnet and check for any smell of fuel.
Why it matters: The Ghibli has had several safety recalls, including a fuel line leak, a risk of the throttle sticking, a possible short circuit in the driver's seat wiring, and the possibility of the car moving away after the driver has got out. Most cars will have had the work done, and a dealer can confirm it from the VIN.
The brake pedal
What to look for: Before and during the test drive, press the brake pedal several times and check it returns fully and freely every time.
Why it matters: The brake pedal has been known to stick on some Ghiblis. A pedal that returns cleanly every time is what you want; one that hesitates needs a dealer to look at it.
