What to check on a B9 A4

3 model-specific things to look at when you view one. They're a starting point, not the full inspection.

  1. 2.0 TFSI: oil use

What to look for: Ask how much oil the car uses between services and how the seller knows. Check the level on the dashboard display.

Why it matters: High oil consumption is reported on the 2.0 TFSI petrol. A steady level between services is a good sign, and a dealer can measure consumption if you're unsure.

  2. Coolant level and water pump

What to look for: With the engine cold, check the coolant tank is between its marks, and look for dried coolant residue around the front of the engine.

Why it matters: Occasional water pump leaks are reported across the range. Caught early, it's a straightforward repair.

  3. S tronic at low speed

What to look for: Pull away gently several times, reverse, and creep in traffic. Notice any lurch or jolt as the clutch takes up.

Why it matters: Occasional lurches from the S tronic are among the reported faults. Smooth low-speed behaviour is what to look for, and software updates help some cars.
